After creating a mailbox in DirectAdmin, you can use it through webmail or connect it to Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and common mobile mail applications.

Information you need

  • Username: the complete email address, such as [email protected]
  • Password: the password assigned when the mailbox was created
  • Incoming server: mail.yourdomain
  • Outgoing server: mail.yourdomain

Recommended secure settings

Use IMAP when the same mailbox will be opened on more than one device. Configure IMAP on port 993 with SSL/TLS. SMTP can use port 465 with SSL/TLS or port 587 with STARTTLS. Enable outgoing-server authentication and use the complete email address as the SMTP username.

POP3 is available for applications that intentionally download mail to one device. Use port 995 with SSL/TLS. IMAP is normally safer for teams and multi-device use because the server remains the shared source of mailbox state.

Webmail

Webmail is available through the Roundcube address supplied with the hosting account. Customers can also use the Webmail action inside their Ecowebzim hosting service, which creates the appropriate control-panel session when supported.

Common setup problems

The password is rejected

Confirm that the mailbox exists, use the full address as the username and re-enter the password rather than copying an extra space.

Receiving works but sending fails

Enable SMTP authentication and confirm port 465 or 587. Some networks block older unsecured mail ports.

The certificate name does not match

Check that mail.yourdomain resolves to the hosting server and has a valid certificate. DNS must point correctly before AutoSSL can issue coverage.

Before changing devices

Keep the old device configured until the new one has sent and received a test message. For additional mailboxes or storage, review the business email hosting plans.
