A .co.zw transfer is different from many international domain transfers. It does not use an EPP or authorisation code. The domain owner instead asks the current registrar to issue a release note.

Step 1: Place the transfer order

Start on the Ecowebzim domain transfer page. Enter the complete domain, select .co.zw and continue through checkout. Use an Ecowebzim account belonging to the domain owner or the organisation authorised to manage it.

Step 2: Contact the current registrar

The owner must email the registrar currently responsible for the domain and ask for a release note. Ask the registrar to send the release note to [email protected]. Because registrar email formats differ, keep a copy of the request and any reply.

Step 3: Ecowebzim reviews the release note

Ecowebzim matches the incoming document to the transfer order. The team then prepares the required domain template and submits the transfer information to the .co.zw registry. If the owner details or domain name do not match, support may request clarification.

Step 4: Track the transfer

The customer dashboard shows the transfer status. “Awaiting release note” means the order exists but the required document has not yet been matched. Registry processing begins after the required information is complete.

Will the website or email stop working?

A registrar transfer does not automatically require a nameserver change. Existing DNS should continue to answer while the transfer is processed. Do not change nameservers at the same time unless a hosting migration is also planned and the new DNS zone is ready.

Transfer checklist

  • The requester is authorised by the domain owner.
  • The transfer order uses the correct domain spelling.
  • The current registrar has been asked for the release note.
  • The release note is sent to [email protected].
  • Existing DNS records remain documented before any hosting move.

For a new, unregistered name, use the .co.zw registration guide instead.
